Unit 8
Rationale
I am very excited to have the opportunity to work on this project. BullyingSupportUK is a charity that supports teenagers aged 14-19, who are having struggles being bullied. A fifth of young people in the UK have been victims of bullying in the past year. The main objective is to create a media product to raise awareness of bullying. I created a survey for people aged 14-19 to get their opinions on what they would rather see when promoting something. The majority said they enjoy watching promotional videos as it breaks down the true meaning of the subject and also very understanding with a visual representation. With this information, I have decided to create a promotional video for BullyingSupportUK.
The targeted audience is people aged 14-19. With this information I have decided to include younger actors and music like Billie Eilish, who has experienced bullying and thoughts to harm themselves. By having them in the Promotional Video they will give a sense of hope towards the targeted audience. Because this will be available in schools and colleges for the start of the academic year, it will be shown in assemblies to the targeted audience so they can be proactive when they next see someone being bullied.
38% believe that their school, university or college doesn’t take bullying seriously. With this fact we have to ensure that schools are reminded that bullying is unacceptable in all schools, universities or colleges. 10% of young people have attempted to commit suicide as a result of bullying. Having this thought in a young person’s life can destroy their path to their dream job. The majority of young people don’t see other people get bullied or don’t get involved when they are being bullied. When creating the Promotional Video, I want the targeted audience to understand the different viewpoints of someone being bullied and what they end up becoming when someone doesn’t intervene. This may give the targeted audience confidence to speak up about their own personal problems or problems they have seen happening to another student. Research on the website bullying.co.uk suggests information to Children and Parents and how to handle the situation in a careful manner. This will give both Parent and Child reassured support by the school and their staff.
Primary research
For my Primary research I decided to create a questionnaire which was targeted at people aged 14-19. In the questionnaire, 71% of people said they have never been bullied in their life but 100% said they have seen someone be bullied. This gives a clear understanding of the first hand unused data that I have obtained through this survey to help determine the factual information about bullying in the United Kingdom.

Secondary research involves a researcher using the information that someone else has gathered for his or her own purposes. With this information I have chosen Anti-BullyingAlliance.org.uk. for Secondary research. This site offers a wide variety of information which could help people aged 14-19, who are suffering from bullying in the United Kingdom. It is also interactive friendly due to the charity events they regularly have and the shop where you can buy merchandise to support the organisation as a whole. Anti-BullyingAlliance.org.uk have key information for Young People, Parents and also Teachers and how to overcome that bullying stage that many people go through as Young People.
