Unit 14 Log
In this week we had to get 8 characteristics about our chosen music genre (Hip Hop). I talked about the main Hip Hop categories of Rapper's Holding Money, Rapper's Jewellery, Rapper's Hand signs, Rapper's Clothing, Rapper's Hairstyles and Hair Colour, Rapper's Drugs, Rapper's Tattoos and Rapper's Headwear. I had to describe why they wear/do these specific things so when we are creating our own magazine, we can take these reasons into account.

For this week we each made a page about our music genre that we was going to analyse and create. I picked Hip Hop, which was very easy as i know a large amount of information about Hip Hop back in the day. I picked out some of the most influential people and albums that changed the way of Hip Hop for the greater good.
This week I learnt the difference between Digital Magazines and Print Magazines. As the number of sales for Digital Magazines increase, the number of sales for Print Magazines decrease. More people prefer Digital Magazines because it is accessible no matter where you are. Whereas Print Magazines are not in every store, which gives the idea that Print Magazines are unpopular in the 21st Century.
In this week we had to analyse your chosen magazine covers for Denotations, Mise-En-Scene, Typography and Targeted Audience. By doing this, it will later benefit us when we create our own magazines. This also aided us in a way that we are now able to find a hidden meaning behind any media products. It now becomes clear to what artist and role models try to do when they are putting on a fake persona for the targeted audience.
In Week 3 we had to complete 2 convention diagrams (One Front Cover and One Double Page Featuring Article). By doing this we learnt more about the key terms that are important while creating and analysing magazines. Key terms like Masthead, Cover Lines, Barcode and QR Code, Selling Line, Main Image, Website Link, Drop Capital, Quote, By-Line, Columns, Headline, Subject Name, Colour Scheme and Stand First are important while working about magazines. You will be able to analyse why and how they added something and analyse the effect of it on the targeted audience.
In the second week we learnt about the Demographics, Psychographics and Geographics in media. These are the three main definitions in media that define how media is marketed around the world. Demographics is mainly the type of people they distribute the media to. For example if there was an advert about a Nerf Gun, you would think the targeted audience would be young boys who like to play with toys. Psychographics is the study of the people who have opinions/interests in the specific media product and Geographics is the area which the media is distributed to.
This week I learnt the meaning of Genre and why we use genres to categorise themes in media. Genres are a big part of life. There can be genres in things like Jobs, Food, Cars etc. Genres are especially used when we try to find a specific movie, tv show or any media product theme. This makes searching for your favourite theme/style much easier than usual. Learning about genre widens my knowledge about the Media Industry.
